卵形疟原虫（Plasmodium ovale）是一种疟原虫，可引发卵形疟，和另外两种主要的疟原虫（恶性疟原虫和间日疟原虫）相比较为少见。一般在感染后12-20天内发作，但有潜伏4年的案例存在[1]。每次发作间隔时间为48小时，与间日疟相同[2]。
1914年，卵形疟原虫由约翰·威廉·沃特森·史蒂芬斯首次描述，样本来自1913年秋于印度伯杰默里一个病人身上提取的血液[3]，现在主要见于撒哈拉以南非洲和太平洋以西的国家[4]。
其下包含存在生殖隔离的两个种群P. ovalecurtisi（也叫“经典型”，拟译：柯氏卵形疟原虫）、P. ovalewallikeri（也叫“变体型”，拟译：沃氏卵形疟原虫）。原本Sutherland等人2010年提出的名称是用于亚种的三名法，[5]，2024年Snounou等人改为用于种的二名法。[6]2024年提出的名称中，P. ovalecurtisi可能有一个会最终被视为P. ovale的次异名。[7]两者临床指标有统计学上显著的差异。[8]
