由于游戏采用非线性叙述手法，因此主要故事通过彼此分离的场景呈现，这些场景发生在坠毁事故的前几周和后几个月内。时间线的跳跃有时通过模仿故障或崩溃的非剧中转场来区分。玩家在坠毁前的场景中会以船长Curly的视角进行，而坠毁后的场景则前副驾驶、现任船长Jimmy的视角进行。[3]
