美國國旗俗稱「星條旗」（Stars and Stripes），正式名稱「合眾國旗」（The Flag of the United States）。它曾經過28次修改，最早期的美國國旗只有13顆星，之後每一個州加入合眾國就在國旗上加上一顆星，而寬條的數目不變。根據美國《國旗法》，只能在7月4日美國獨立日這一天對國旗作出更改。最近的一次修改是在1960年夏威夷正式成為美國的一個州後，國旗上的49顆星被改為50顆。

國旗發展史

獨立初期的其他變體星條旗

本寧頓旗幟是一種流行於美國的愛國國旗，76代表美國獨立宣言所簽署的時間。

傳說這面旗幟是在美國獨立戰爭中的本寧頓之役期間所使用的，但根據近代調查，逐漸推翻這可能性，也有認為該旗幟可能是1876年為紀念獨立一百周年所製作的旗幟[1]。
