金牛座21,正式的名称是Asterope /əˈstrɛrəpiː/[12][13],是在疏散星团昴宿星团中组成昴宿三这一对双星的成员之一,“金牛座21”是佛兰斯蒂德命名法赋予的名称。这颗恒星的视星等为5.76等,在理想条件下勉强可以用肉眼看到[2],然而任何以裸眼能观察到这个天体的人都可能会把这对天体看作是5.6星等,并有着细长形式的单一恒星[14]。到金牛座 21 的距离可以从其每年mas的 7.6 视差偏移来估计[1],它距离地球约为431光年,相对于日心有着+6 km/s的径向速度[4]。它位于黄道附近,因此会受到月掩星的影响。
“Asterope”是希腊神话中的普勒阿得斯,即昴宿星团的七姐妹之一。在2016,国际天文学联合会组织了恒星名称工作组(WGSN)[15]对星星的专有名称进行分类和标准化。WGSN决定将专有名称只给予单颗恒星,而不是整个多星系统[16]。它于2016年8月21日批准了“金牛座21”的名称为Asterope,现在它已被列入IAU核定的恒星名称清单[13]。
金牛座21是一颗蓝白色调的B型主序星,恒星分类为B8V[3]。它是单独的一颗恒星[17],质量大约是太阳的3倍[2],年龄大约是一亿年[9]。它来自表面光球层的有效温度为11,041 K[2],辐射出大约是太阳100倍的光度[2]。它显示出红外过量,但这是由于反射星云而不是星周盘[9]。
