西閃語支是一個閃語族的分支。1883年，Fritz Hommel首先提出了這一分類單元。^[2]^[3]^[4]一些閃學家，如羅伯特·赫特佐恩（英語：Robert Hetzron）等把閃語族分成東閃語支和西部閃語支。^[5]^[6]

西閃語支包含：東南閃語支、古南阿拉伯語、衣索比亞語支、阿拉伯語、西北閃語支（包含希伯來語、阿拉米語、已滅絕的亞摩利語和烏加里特語）。^[6]

東閃語支則包含已滅絕的埃勃拉語和阿卡德語。^[7]

衣索比亞語支和南阿拉伯語擁有一些共同特徵，常統一划為南閃語支。^[6]阿拉伯語和其他閃語族語言的分類關係存在爭議。^{[來源請求]}在較老的分類中，其常劃入南閃語支。^[8]然而Hetzron和Huehnergard認為阿拉伯語更接近西北閃語支，構成中閃語支。^[6]一些閃學家基於破碎複數的區別特徵繼續堅持較老的分類，也有人認為伊特拉賽普勒斯語是一種分布在賽普勒斯的西北閃語。^{[來源請求]}
